The University of Miami school year has just begun and we’re incredibly excited to have a new, amazing group of residents. To kick off a great year at The Standard at Coral Gables, we planned a calendar jam-packed with a variety of residence life events to give our residents and their friends the opportunity to meet and mingle with their neighbors and to enjoy spending time in our luxury amenities.
Week 1 – Taco Thursday
For our first resident event, we held Taco Thursday featuring Taco Genius tacos at our rooftop pool deck. This was a come and go event, where residents could build their own taco masterpieces. Our taco bar was buffet style of chicken or beef tacos, with a variety of delicious toppings. This was a fun event, where we were able to meet many of our new residents for the first time!
Week 2 – Yoga Event
Week two, we held a yoga event on the turf of our rooftop pool deck in front of our gorgeous infinity style pool. We were able to partner with a local yoga instructor who hosted our class for residents that RSVP’d. This was a fun, wellness event where residents could relax and regroup after experiencing their first busy weeks of classes.
Week 3 – Canned Food Drive
During our third week of resident events, we held canned food drive for our local food bank. For every 3 cans donated, our residents would get one entry for a raffle giveaway prize of a polaroid camera. This was a month-long event for our residents to have the opportunity to give back to our community. Thanks to our generous residents, we were able to donate several cans of food to help those in need.
Week 4 – “Let’s See Your New Home”
For our fourth resident event, we held a “Let’s See Your New Home” event. Our residents were able to showcase our brand-new apartments with how they designed and decorated their new home. To participate, they were required to submit photos of the different rooms in their apartment. The top 5 submissions were posted on our story for voting, and the winning apartment received a brand-new air fryer. We had over 900 followers submit their votes on their favorite decor. Our residents were excited to share their new homes with us!
Week 5 – Canvas Painting
Week five, we held a canvas painting event in our clubroom. Our residents were able to RSVP in advance to guarantee a spot at this event. We provided 8 by 10 canvas, paint, and paint brushes for our residents to make their own masterpieces. This event was on family weekend so that their guarantor could participate as well. Our residents enjoyed an afternoon of creativity where they could make their own apartment décor.
Week 6 – Pool Bash
Our very last week of our 6 in 6 events, we held our first Pool Bash. This was a game themed party at our rooftop pool. Our event featured giant Jenga, water volleyball, and bucket ball. Winners took away gift cards to local restaurant around the Coral Gables area as their prize. We had many residents enjoy this come and go event, and they are already looking forward to our next pool event.
Our team has had such an amazing time getting to meet our residents over the past 6 weeks. Here at The Standard at Coral Gables, we strive to create the best experience in the University of Miami off campus housing and hosting a variety of awesome resident events is just one part of achieving that.
